AMMAN — Jordan will host an international conference on medical liability along with a concurrent medical tourism expo in February next year, aimed at enhancing the healthcare standards in West Asia and boosting the region’s medical tourism sector, according to Dr. Nasser Abu-Rumman, the event’s organizer and a prominent legal scholar.

“Improving legal frameworks and addressing legislative gaps can position Jordan at the forefront of medical accountability globally, transforming the sector into a vital economic contributor,” said Dr. Nasser Abu-Rumman, a specialist in medical law and Founder and CEO of the West Asia Medical Liability Company (WACML).

The enhancement of medical liability legislation is seen as crucial for the promotion of medical tourism, he told The Jordan Times. Stricter regulations and accountability measures ensure high medical standards, increase patient confidence, and foster an environment of trust and safety. This, in turn, makes Jordan and any other provider a more attractive destination for international patients seeking high-quality medical care.

Abu-Rumman, who earned his PhD from Cairo University, has been a member of the Medical Professional Liability (MPL) in Virginia since 2021, representing the Middle East and West Asia. His recent book, “The Doctor’s Responsibility for Assistants’ Actions,” explores the legal challenges related to medical errors and the role of healthcare professionals in mitigating risks and improving care.

The upcoming conference and expo, organized by WACML, aim to bring together experts and stakeholders from across the region to discuss and develop strategies for improving medical liability frameworks. This initiative aligns with Jordan’s efforts to enhance its legal and medical infrastructure, which are vital for sustainable development and economic growth.

The pundit highlighted that Jordan has made significant progress in adapting civil liability laws but noted that clear legislative policies and sufficient resources are still needed for effective implementation.
